AMP support Taur, Fretilin has less Interest in Taur

MP Vidal "Riak Leman" de Jesus from the Social Democratic Party (PSD) said some MPs from the Parliamentary Majority Alliance (AMP) support Major General Taur Matan Ruak to announce his presidential candidacy, but Fretilin has no obsession for Taur's candidacy. Fretilin thinks Taur is not in their list of candidates.

MP Riak Leman said Taur is suitable to announce his candidacy as he has spirit of nationalism and patriotism.

"He is suitable for announcing his candidacy as he has spirit of nationalism and patriotism and I do believe that he is capable of becoming president, "we know him well that he is a veteran who got involved in war during 24 years for the national liberation this is because he loves this country rather than another person," MP Riak Leman said.

He added that his party has not yet to appoint someone who will announce his presidential candidacy. MP Francisco Miranda Branco from Fretilin, said Fretilin has no obsession against Taur to announce his candidacy, adding that all the citizens have absolute rights to announce his candidacy for president. In addition, Jose Teixeira, a Fretilin MP said, Taur is not important for his party as his party has better candidates such as Mari Alkatiri to run for the presidency.

MP Aderito Hugo da Costa from the National Congress for the Timorese Reconstruction (CNRT) said his party will make decision in January next year, who will be nominated from his party to announce his candidacy.
